What is friendship?

Friendship is a relationship between friends.  Friends are essential in our lives, as every person needs a friend who can understand, support, and help him. Does everyone understand the meaning of a real friend? I think that in the 21st century the understanding of it has changed a lot. People are more reserved, selfish and are strangers to each other. Still, almost every day we meet new people and we communicate with them. Can we call it friendship? Or friendship is a long lasting connection between people? A true friendship consists of real feelings and  a very strong and close relation between faithful souls.  Furthermore, you have to find a difference between true and false friends in order to understand what is a real friend. Moreover, you have to devote yourself to relations between the most important people in your life.

First of all, a deep friendship is the most important thing. We have to understand the meaning of a firm friendship. What is that? Why do we need it? Is it a feeling or just an attachment? If you have a friend you feel needed, happy and make another person feel this way. Friendship is a priceless relation, which is significant to all the creatures of the universe. Faithful friends are beyond the price: no amount can balance their worth. We have to realize that friendship is the base of our lives.
Secondly, we have to see the difference between a fair-weather friend and an intimate friend. As the Bible says :”The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray”. Who walks with wise people will become wise himself, but who keeps company with fools will be destroyed. A close friend will stay together through thick and thin, he will always be by your side when you need a shoulder to cry on and will have the ability to understand another person’s feelings, thoughts and attitude. We have to remember that if we what to have a real friend, we have to be one.
Thirdly, a lifelong friendship is a devotion to one’s life. A cordial and enduring relation is built of time, feelings and trust. Every person has to treat another person like he wants to be treated. Friendship is based on honesty. You have to be reliable, friendly, generous and loyal, if you want to have a true friendship and if you want your friend to behave like this. “Cherish your friend, keep faith in him’’. By doing this,  we will find the greatness of a lifelong friendship.
Taking everything into account, we usually think about what kind of friend is a true friend. But we don’t really think about what kind of friends we are.  First, we have to look at ourselves and then judge another person. “The only unsinkable ship is FRIENDSHIP”. Friendship is the most valuable thing in the world. You have to understand the meaning of a beautiful friendship, recognize your true friends and be a committed friend.

  6. That's a very good essay. However, every time I her that "Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are" thing I want to argue about it. Why is it always necessary that somebody influences you? Why can't you influence somebody?
