Mixed marriage
In the 21st century a mixed marriage is a common thing. Unfortunately, in some countries life might be impossible, if you marry someone who is from another country. For instance, Indonesia only recognizes the rights of citizens. The laws do not provide the right to marry someone of another nationality. If it happens, the children are considered to be citizens of a different country. The understanding of a mixed marriage depends only on the person’s world outlook. For some people it is very important to have a husband of the same race and traditions. For other people, having a mixed marriage doesn’t mean anything, as feelings plays a huge role in relationships, doesn’t matter how different people are. Is it possible to have a mixed marriage if your religion and culture is different and you may lose your personality?
First of all, a different religion can be the biggest obstacle in marriage. Both partners have to be empathic. In order to realize that people are not the same and every person has the right to choose and accept a certain religion. Moreover, you have to find a compromise with your spouse. Unfortunately, it can be very hard to agree on which religion they have to teach their children. As a result, parents have to think about it before planning a child. The most important thing is to understand your partner’s beliefs and decide on religion your family will confess.
Secondly, diverse cultures can cause disagreements. You can misunderstand your spouse by having arguments about traditions, art, manner or the knowledge and understanding of the world. On the other hand, if your spouse is an open-minded person, you will mutually complete each other. Person’s culture can tell a lot about his traits and lifestyle. You can explore another culture, broaden your thinking and knowledge. If you truly love your partner, you will accept the differences and they will make your marriage even better.
Thirdly, one of the partners can lose his or her identity. If you marry someone from another culture, means that you will live outside of your home. You and your children will not be able to see your family very often. You can even renounce your culture, heritage, religion or even language. As a consequence, your children will live far away from their grandparents and might have a language barrier. Moreover, you may have a hard time in understanding each other’s humor and in celebrating national celebrations.
Taking everything into account, if you want to have a happy marriage, you have to be devoted, understand your spouse’s lifestyle and world outlook. Sometimes it can be hard, but if you feel a pure and real love, everything will be possible. No matter how different you might be, a strong feeling of love can make your marriage successful. This is something you will have to determine for yourself and think if you can handle a different religion, culture and possible loss of your identity.
